Engineering within bolt tension technology

kNm Hydraulikk provide engineering services for your bolting needs and challenges.

OUR KNOWLEDGE is YOUR SAFETY

OUR KNOWLEDGE is YOUR SAFETY is what we have stood for since we started kNm Hydraulikk in 2008. As a company, we have been developing and implementing specific solutions for customers within bolting technology. We have successfully implemented numerous individual solutions for different clients across several different industries. Our engineering department have come up with tailor made solutions that have contributed to speeding up processes, ensuring time and cost reductions as well as making bolting jobs both safer and easier for our clients.

Our engineering department will start a project by analyzing technical requirements to then customize bolting solutions to meet those specifications or needs.

Engineering Services

The engineering services we offer include the following options:

  • 3D modeling
  • Calculation of a bolt connection and fasteners
  • Customize projects and solutions
  • Pre-tensioning measurement of bolts
  • Development and construction of all models
  • Measurement of preloads in bolt connections

Extensive experience and thorough testing

kNm Hydraulikk employees have extensive experience in carrying out torque calculations and preload calculations. Through simulation and thorough testing, personal injuries can be avoided by increasing the safety and productivity of users. That is what we are most concerned with – recommending effective solutions for your bolting challenges and needs.

Our engineering department will design a solution tailored to your specific application. We are known for advising on the selection of prestressing methods and the calculation of bolted connections.

Calculations

Preload is a tension that is created in a fastener when it is tightened. The tensile force in the bolt creates a compressive force in the bolted joint, this is known as clamp force. If proper preload, or more specifically, clamp force is not developed or maintained, the likelihood of problems such as joint separation, fatigue failure and self-loosening from vibration can plague the bolted joint leading to joint failure.

The most critical factor regarding the reliability of a threaded-fastener joint is preload. Preload is a function of many variables, such as material and finish, head style and lubrication. It is crucial to conduct calculations to understand the precise preload needed for every calculation.

At kNm Hydraulikk we conduct calculations to ensure that the correct equipment is being used for specific operations and to ensure that total bolt load, tensile stress and tightening torque is correct.
